Summer heat and staying cool

With summer here in force, temperatures soaring, and the sun baking the asphalt, it’s a good time to rework your daily schedules to be able to get outside during the cool parts of the day, and hide away in siesta during the hot afternoons. Here are just a few reminders of things that could help you stay cool during the hot days:

  • Keep well hydrated
  • Keep out of the sun when possible, and try to avoid strenuous activity or exercise during the hot afternoons
  • Take tepid showers or baths to cool down
  • Eat cooling foods such as mint, cucumber, watermelon, and citrus fruits
  • Use fans to move air
  • Don’t get angry, enraged, or upset (ie: hot-headed)
  • Be extra cautious of your pets’ needs–keep their paws off hot asphalt, keep them hydrated, and don’t leave them in your car

Acupuncture can help to cool you down as well. There are many acupuncture points that send the message to clear and release heat from your body. Come in to an acupuncture clinic and get cooled off. You can sign up by scheduling an acupuncture appointment here.
