Hello Memphis! Chinese New Year is February 10 and will usher in the Year of the Wood Dragon. This week before new year’s day, you can spend some time cleaning your house, straightening up your business, cutting your hair, cleaning out closets – basically sweeping away the dust and detritus of last year (some might even say the bad luck) and opening up space for new energy in the months to come.
Personally, I am packing up my things and finishing my last weeks of work in Connecticut and preparing to move to Memphis the beginning of March. I am on both a metaphorical and physical threshold. I will be starting up the Memphis acupuncture clinic on March 22 at Shady Grove Presbyterian Church and taking stock of how we can all bring a little more peace and sanity into each day.
Dragon years can be quite exciting—just as roller coasters and wild storms can be exciting—and they can be full of positive change as well as unrest. The two words I keep seeing for the coming year are vitality and renewal. I am by no means a good Chinese astrologer, so I’ll link to a few articles here if you’d like to read up on what the Wood Dragon year can hold for you and the community at large.

As for new year’s cleaning, I am also cleaning up the website and getting an online scheduling calendar in place. I have something simple set up right now and I think it could work well. It is ready to be put into use so feel free to check it out and schedule yourself an appointment or three. You will always be able to email me for an appointment, but I think the online schedule will help out a lot. You can move from week to week by the arrows to the sides of the calendar so you can book ahead. Play with it a little, I’m sure you can get the hang of it with practice, and just let me know what I can do to make it, or the website in general, more useful to you.
Another thing I’m going to be doing is posting these newsletters as blog posts on the website. On occasion someone will ask me about this thing or that thing that I was talking about in a newsletter and I did not have an easy way to share them. By placing them on the website as posts, I’m hoping to make them easier to find to those wishing to find them. This is my intention at least, your milage may vary as they say.
Well, let’s all get back to cleaning, there’s enough of it that needs to be done. I am very much looking forward to seeing you all again and getting to work with you over this year filled with vitality and renewal, excitement and unrest, and hefty doses of peace and tranquility.
Have a wonderful week!
Mike
